Pub Food Sale On The Rise
Despite the recession this year, the beer tax, the smoking ban, a poor summer and the ever present figure of 6 pubs a week closing down the Publicans Annual Food Report has reported that Pub food sales have remained stable.
Some 43% of pubs surveyed said that their food sales had even risen over the last year and 31% said that levels had stayed the same, compared to only 23% that reported a drop in food sales.
Competitive pricing and 2 for 1 promotions have made pub menus very competitive in the discount eating market and has enabled many publicans to keep their heads above the water in the most difficult times.
However, the report does not believe that the pub food industry should continue to lead the discount market, and advises Publicans to maintain their margins and not to be afraid to put up their prices. The so called 3 F's - females, families and over fifties should be the prime targets.
All in all the report considered that the industry should take its findings as good news for 2010.
