'Music Makeover'; Live Music in UK Pubs

The BBPA is working with Performing Rights Society (PRS) on a new campaign to promote live music in pubs.

The ‘Music Makeover’ campaign will focus on the central role played by pubs in promoting live music and demonstrate the way that music can help pubs grow and maintain their business.

It is being launched via a competition to find two pubs in need of a ‘Music Makeover’. The BBPA will be working with PRS to identify one of the venues from amongst BBPA members’ pubs.

PRS for Music will be spending up to £5,000 on each pub, as well as giving them all the advice they need, including expert help from the Musicians’ Union and successful music pubs around the country. 45,000 pubs nationwide will be sent advice packs from PRS for Music in 2010, with an invite to follow the story of the Music Makeover pubs online.

The campaign was launched with the publication of new research, showing that featuring music boosts takings by 44 per cent, rising to 60 per cent at weekends.
