Luton pubs may never pour another pint

A pair of permanently closed Luton pubs may never pour another pint after attracting strong interest from property developers.

The Britannia, in Biscot Road, and The Enterprise, in Elizabeth Street, are both on the market for £250,000 each, and property agent Paramount Investments have said that the sites are proving attractive to buyers wishing to convert the buildings into flats or shops.

Mark Greig, managing director of Paramount Investment, said: "Although we would like to see The Britannia and The Enterprise continue as going concerns, we have had recent interest from developers as they are in a planning class which means they can be converted into flats or other retail uses with minimal recourse to the planning authorities."

But he added that efforts to find a buyer to turn the properties back into pubs have not been abandoned.

"Falling property prices are creating tremendous bargains within the pub market for licensees who know they can respond to the challenges facing the modern trade."
